Although the events that lead up to my learning how to mosaic are tragic, the art form in some ways has become a blessing to my life. I have been mosaicing since I was 8 and continue to do it off and on now in my dear friend's mosaic studio: Seattle Mosaic Arts.
For a graduation present, my boyfriend's father shipped me a bull's skull. Yes, I know that's a little weird, but he owns a small scale slaughter house in rural Virginia and typically saves the skulls by planting them throughout his yard to bleach in the sun. He has so many of them and usually ends up throwing them away eventually (so sad!) so I told him I would love to have as many as he could give me. We'll see where this little collaboration goes, but in the meantime I'm really loving how this one turned out.
The mosaic is with pieces of glass, tile, and metal beads. I then used apoxie sculpt (love this stuff!) to place the ceramic and metal beads around the horns.
